Ionic Wars Launched

Ionic Wars started out as a desire to make my very own video game. I had heard from a friend that it was not hard to make a Facebook application, and so I set out on a journey to make it happen. The game started to develop right before the first of the year (Dec. 29, 2009).

I thought of a name, but could not get the domain for it. After awhile I came up with Ionic Wars. I typed it in and found that it was going to work.

I remember looking at the blank page with a blinking cursor on the first of the year. The date was Jan. 01, 2010, a joke for geeks is that the date was 010110.

I had some experience from working on another game that had many bugs. I had learned a lot, and I knew I was ready to make my own game. I never knew how much more I would learn from working on Ionic Wars all this time.

I started the project out with a fan of my older game, Mike Swing. Tho he has recently left the project due to time and frustration with me (I am very picky). Mike was a major part in the art, layout, and design of the game and I thank him for that.

Ionic Wars is still a work in progress and will continue to be a learning experience for me and others that help.

I also would like to thank the countless Alpha and Beta players that have worked with me on a personal level to make sure the game is enjoyable to all.

My Birthday

Well, I turn 23 today. Yep I finally am as old as someone that is 23. Anyways I really do not have any plans for my birthday, I guess I might just watch my Facebook page get overloaded with happy birthday wishes.

I have a lot of work still to do on Ionic Wars. Ionic Wars comes out September 1st, just a few more days. It is amazing to think of how much I have learned on this one project and how much I have improved.

Ionic Wars – Cancel Mission Feature

One of the most requested features is in the works. In Ionic Wars you can now cancel active missions to make room for other missions. This will be useful for when you click that wrong mission and you kick yourself. Now you can simply cancel that mission and try another one.

The only thing I have left to do is to make it so it returns stripped items and resources. If the mission requires an item right now, the mission strips it when you start, then if you cancel the mission it does not return the item. This will cause out cries! So I will wait to push the patch until we get this into place. I figure this will come out with the account reset on Sept. 1, 2010.

Gaining health in combat update

I did a small update to the development server of Ionic Wars to fix the bug with combat that would allow for a player to gain health if the players shields were too powerful.

I thought this was kind of funny when I looked over the combat log and seen me gaining health as I fought another player. This will be patched when we do the reset. I plan to have a decent patch with the reset to fix bugs and to do things people have wanted done for awhile. Maybe a cancel missions button (maybe it is still in the works).

Combat System Update

Another post about the combat system really… yes. I have it almost done. I tested it out today and it is working well. I still need to wrap it up and get a few things done. I plan to release it in patch 1.2 on Ionic Wars. I hope it will be soon, but not sure. I will keep you posted about other things with 1.2 soon.

Combat on the Combat System

I been fighting myself to get more combat coding done lately. I am lazy and this has been a lot of work. I want to think ahead to make sure it covers or can cover features I want to cover in the future.

I hope to have it complete in a few more days. I also hope to get some more bugs fixed. I got a few sticky noted to the game so I don’t forget them.

Rewriting Ionic Wars Combat System

This might be the first time I have stripped something from my code and started to rewrite it. I always feel bad about my code and just want to scrap the project, but today I started to rewrite the Ionic Wars Combat System code.

I feel proud of my new code and feel that it is very flexible then my old code ever was. This gives me new encouragement!

Pictures and Required Items

Mike and I got some more work done today on Ionic Wars. Mike has added a few new mission pictures and I got some code done that now allows us to strip items from the player’s inventory if it is required for a mission. So if you get 10 scrap metal you might be able to turn them in to a guy for a reward. After the mission started the 10 scrap metal would be removed from your inventory.

Also I guess there might be an issue with faction rep not getting added to the account correctly. I will have to look into that soon.
